Called to Serve in the Philippines
Medical Evangelism Ministry
In 2002, Patrick and Shari Bailey were commissioned and sent out by the Ocean Hills Community Church, San Juan Capistrano, California, to do medical outreaches among rural Pastors and the unreached people in the Visayan and Mindanao Islands. They met and were touched by the Bajao, the most primitive and marginalized people group in the Philippines.
Shari began by using her years of extensive RN experience, providing medical care and teaching them to access available medical resources. Patrick explained Christianity to this animistic people, whose reliance on witchcraft and centuries-old traditions, was causing them to be discriminated against by the Philippine population. This kept the Bajao stuck in their deep cycle of extreme poverty, helplessness and hopelessness.
The Bailey’s have remained the only foreigners in this Philippine-based ministry to date. They disciple, empower and employ the Bajao people, helping them obtain gainful employment and become accepted and productive members of the Philippine Society.
